The 90-Minute Plan

Learn the 4-in-Hand Knot0–15 min

Drape tie around neck with wide end on right. Cross wide over narrow, bring wide end around back, pull through loop and down through front knot

Practice the Windsor Knot15–35 min

Wide end right. Cross wide over narrow at back of neck. Bring wide up through loop, down through left hole. Repeat on right side, then down through front knot

Master the Half-Windsor35–55 min

Similar to Windsor but only cross the wide end once through the front loop instead of twice, creating a smaller, more casual knot

Practice All Three Methods55–75 min

Tie and untie each knot 3 times until you can do it without thinking. Speed will improve with repetition

Understand When to Use Each75–90 min

4-in-hand for casual and narrow collars, Half-Windsor for medium occasions, Windsor for formal events and spread collars

Pro Tip

The tip of your tie should end at your belt buckle. Practice with a mirror positioned at chest height
